Throwing Taster Workshops
£55.00 per person

An introduction to throwing on the potters wheel. Maximum of 2 students, for 2 hours you will have the opportunity to throw a variety of small vessels on an electric wheel. Included in the price are up to 3 pieces of work which we will bisque fire, glaze and re-fire for collection at a later date. Additional pieces can be fired at a small additional cost.

Sessions are currently available on Fridays and Saturdays.

For adults/older teenagers.
Wear suitable clothes as throwing can be messy! Aprons provided. Masks must be worn as this is close work with the tutor.

RAKU Making/Firing Experience Days
£110.00 per person

Tiles, Tea Bowls, Pinch Pots & Raku Firing

Making day - Max 4 people
First Session: Over 2 hours learn to make slab tiles, tea-bowls or pinch pots for firing using Japanese style crackle glazes and metallic lustres.

Sessions are currently available on Fridays and Saturdays.

These will be dried and bisque fired ready for your firing session approx 2 weeks later.

Second Session: 2-3+ hours Glazing and raku firing. Demo of basic glazing methods before glazing your own work.

You take your work away with you at the end of the firing. Suitable for beginners.

This is an ideal entry level course for beginners as no experience is necessary. If you have some hand-building experience already you may develop your own project during the two hours (subject to size/technique restrictions).

Each firing can take about half an hour and depends hugely on the weather conditions, affected by wind, humidity and temperature. The risk of thermal shock adds to the excitement of the experience, as the kiln is taken up to temperatures of approx 1000°C.

Note - This outdoor activity cannot be held during wet weather and will be postponed to a mutually agreeable day if required.

Wear suitable fire resistant clothes. Aprons and gloves provided. Please wear a mask.

Kiln Hire

I'm afraid I am no longer able to offer kiln hire.

Terms and Conditions

Please be aware that your pots may take some time to be fired. Clay must dry thoroughly before it goes in the kiln, and there is often a queue of pots waiting to be fired.  Occasionally, accidents will happen and your pots may be damaged during firing.

All completed taster session pottery must be collected within 6 weeks of being fired. It is up to you to make contact and check if your pot is ready to collect. If it has not been collected within 6 weeks it will become property of Claire Porter Ceramics and will be disposed of by any means we see fit. If it has not been finished and the person making it has not attended again to finish it, it will not be fired and will be reclaimed.

All expiry dates on vouchers are final.

We will only fire pottery that has been made in our studio.

All use of materials and tools is at the discretion of Claire Porter Ceramics.

By contacting Claire Porter Ceramics, either through our website, email, telephone, Facebook or Instagram you are agreeing to Claire Porter Ceramics contacting you regarding your enquiry. We will not use or share your information with any other party.
